Breeding the Sacred Temple Cat of Burma
For more than four decades, breeding Birmans has been a true passion and lifelong journey. My love affair with this beautiful breed began over 50 years ago when I first saw them featured in a New Zealand edition of Woman’s Weekly, announcing their arrival into the country in the early 1970s. From that moment, I was captivated and promised myself that one day I would own one of these remarkable cats.
That dream became reality in 1983 with the arrival of Shanna, a beautiful seal point female who became the foundation of my breeding program and the beginning of a very rewarding journey.
Nicsha Birmans is based in Brisbane, Australia, located on the lower North Coast, approximately 40 minutes from Brisbane’s city centre.
Throughout the years I have witnessed many exciting developments within the breed, including the introduction of stunning new colours. In 1992, I imported my first lilac point stud, Swechinthe Huso, together with a chocolate male, Swechinthe Sanjit. These were the first imports of their kind into Queensland, and with the support of fellow breeders Sue Thompson (Arakan Birmans) and Liz Robinson (Sarika & Majik Birmans), I began working with chocolate and lilac lines.
Today my focus has returned to producing exceptional seal and blue point Birmans while also dedicating time to my Siberian cats. Quality, temperament, and health remain at the heart of my breeding program, and I continue to show my cats throughout the year.
Every kitten raised at Nicsha receives the very best start in life, with plenty of care, socialisation, and attention to ensure they transition confidently into their new homes.
I welcome all enquiries and am always happy to provide advice and guidance to prospective Birman owners, helping families find the right kitten for their home. I’m also happy to arrange appointments for visitors wishing to meet our cats and view the parents.
